Room Hire

Our church has four separate areas which are available for hire and are suitable for meetings, training, workshops, concerts, parties and exercise groups.

Chairs, tables and tea and coffee-making facilities are available in every room.

We have free Wi-Fi throughout the building (available subject to terms of use).

Three of our four rooms have level access, hearing loops and level access to accessible toilet facilities. Baby changing facilities are also available. 


Main Hall

This room has a hardwood floor. There are blackout curtains and a pull-down screen. An upright piano is available but there is no specialist performance equipment.

Dimensions: 13.5m x 8.5m (28′ x 44′)

Accessibility: level access via side door on Chapel Street. A hearing loop is available.

Toilet Facilities: fully accessible plus baby changing

Upper Room

This room has a carpeted floor and there is a kitchenette in the room.

Capacity: 40

Dimensions: 6.5m x 7.5m (22′ x 24′)

Accessibility: this room is not accessible. Access is by a flight of stairs.

Toilet Facilities: toilet available adjacent to the room.

Lower Room

This room is carpeted and has a kitchenette. It can be split in two and has blackout curtains.

Capacity: 40

Dimensions: 5.5m x 8.5m (18′ x 28′)

Accessibility: level access via door on Fountain Street by arrangement, otherwise 5 steps from ground level from usual entrance on Chapel Street. Hearing loop available.

Toilet Facilities: fully accessible toilets adjacent to the room.


This is a large space with a balcony and raised chancel area (stage) suitable for music performances and rehearsals. Seating layout can be adjusted to individual requirements. There are fixed lights to the chancel area and a PA system with a wired and a radio mic. A grand piano is available for an additional charge. If considering this venue for speech and drama, please discuss the acoustics with us directly.

Capacity: 200

Dimensions: 10m x 15m plus 8m x 5m (chancel)  (32′ x 50′ plus 27′ x 17′ chancel)

Accessibility: accessible via ramps from the Market Place or on the flat via Chapel Street.

Toilet Facilities: accessible toilet to rear of church.

Hire Costs

From 1 September 2023:

Main Hall – £30 per hour

Upper Room – £19 per hour

Lower room – £19 per hour

Church – £52 per hour

Whole building – £100 per hour for first two hours, £70 per hour thereafter


Other facilities available for separate hire:

Kitchen (for full meal preparation) – £30 per booking

Kitchen (microwave/toaster only) – £9 per booking

Grand piano – £35 per booking


Our usual hire period is Mondays to Saturdays, 8am-10pm.

If you use the premises on a regular basis – i.e. more than three occasions during the year – you are required by The Methodist Church to have your own Public Liability Insurance.

Prohibited Activities

Methodist Church policies prohibit the consumption or display of alcohol on our premises.

Gambling is also prohibited on the premises although raffles for charitable fundraising may be held under certain circumstances (please contact the office for more information).

Sales for commercial profit which are not beneficial to the community are also not allowed.

Parties with a Halloween theme are prohibited and bouncy castle parties are also not allowed on our premises.

How to Find Us

Buxton Methodist Church is located on the Market Place off the main road (Terrace Road, A515) through Higher Buxton.

By Car

There is Pay and Display parking available on the Market Place in front of the church and two-hour free parking bays down either side of the church. There is limited parking available on the church forecourt.

By Train

Buxton’s Railway Station is located ~10 minutes walk away. From the station, head into the centre of town and walk up Terrace Road.

By Bus

Buxton’s main bus stops are located ~1 minute walk away further along the Market Place.
